All the best for 2023 and here's a glimpse of where we started

Spanish Easy - the beginning! A flashback to the first beginners' group class held by Nancy (centre) in Hawthorn, Melbourne in 1997. Very typical of our classes ever since - adult students with a mixture of ages and backgrounds, a friendly and informal setting, a round-table layout for maximum interaction. Our courses in 2023 still build on what we've learned over more than 25 years guiding your journey into the wonderful Spanish-speaking world.

2022 - Spanish Easy's 25th Anniversary Year!

All our best wishes to students past and present for a happy and successful 2022… after two years of disruption, inconvenience (at the very least), uncertainty and… well, everything else that we have all been experiencing, we hope that the worst is well and truly behind us.

Let's look forward to picking up our lives, regaining purpose and commitment, perhaps fulfilling delayed plans or taking the opportunity for new beginnings.

The background to our Anniversary:

Spanish Easy began in earnest in the inner-eastern suburbs of Melbourne 25 years ago, and then moved to Canberra, where we have been ever since: in the inner-north and the inner-south. In particular we want to thank Campbell Primary School for several very happy and productive years we spent in its then-new multi-purpose facility, and to wish them well with their current major rebuilding program.

In those 25 years the Spanish language that we love has continued to grow in use and popularity worldwide. It is easily the world's 3rd-most used language and some experts now rate it even higher for communication internationally. On the Internet, and notably media such as Netflix and YouTube, the opportunities to hear Spanish and participate in learning through entertainment have expanded enormously.

During the pandemic Spanish Easy in Canberra moved to a mix of online and face-to-face tuition; both with our ongoing commitment to small group classes, individual attention and 'round-table' participation. As we go into 2022 and its promise of better times to come we hope you can join us.

email and contacting us

In August 2020 we changed email providers (OK let's be direct: we sacked the old one) because of issues with unreliable email provision. Sometimes we just didn't seem to get emails, or they popped up days later. So we apologise if email communications were patchy at times. All changed now!

We are using an Australian-based specialised email service called FASTMAIL, of which our administrator Stuart has had experience for more than a year with other business activities, and he says it's a great, super-reliable service.

Nancy, our director, will continue to be your first point of contact to discuss your needs and assess your abilities in Spanish. Despite her name she is in fact a native Spanish speaker from South America.

Face-to-face classes resume, online continues

JULY 2020

FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES ARE RESUMING, with class sizes scaled down even further from our usual (pre-Covid19) policy.
The maximum number of students in any class = 9, allowing even more space per student than the ACT regulations.
Cleaning and sanitising is carried out before each class in accordance with those regulations.
OUR INNER-SOUTH CANBERRA CLASSES ARE HELD IN GRIFFITH, near Canberra Avenue; convenient if coming by car or bus (R6).

ONLINE CLASSES have proved to be very successful and popular and we will continue those.
To participate in our online tuition you must have:

- a good internet connection

- a modern laptop, desktop computer (with mic and webcam), tablet or smart-phone

- an up-to-date version of the common web browsers
such as Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge (January 2020+)… all are free to download and use.

- easy access to email

- please also ensure that you are able to take classes in a quiet location,
that's good for you and good for everyone else too!

- we use a web-browser based system called Whereby. Unlike most other video meetings you are not required to download apps, or sign up to any service, or reveal any personal information. We like that your privacy and data are protected under strict European regulations. And it's really easy to use!

Los Campeones de Scrabble

December 2019: Each year we host the World Spanish Scrabble Championship (as some participants would say…). Here is a moment of tense action as Julia plans a decisive play. Congratulations to the night's winners… oh, never mind, it's not the winning that counts is it? A great time was had by all. Next time, Monopoly from Peru!

Hasta luego Jemma!

Farewell to our teacher Jemma (second right) from Spain - Jemma's returning to Europe and will be greatly missed!

Jemma: we're not saying "adios" (goodbye), it's "hasta luego" (see you later) because we hope one day to see you again here in Canberra.

Beginners and Intermediate last class photos, Dec. 2015

Last classes and pre-Christmas farewell - our beginners and intermediate classes combined under the direction of teacher and guitarista Manuel (hidden talents! and he sings well too!) to eat, drink and sing some Spanish-language favourites.
